Hagalaz, is that type of rune you sometimes dread getting when doing a reading. It literal translation is hailstorm or hail which does not general the most pleasant of thoughts. The keywords associated to it are not much better…in a reading it refers to misfortune, interference, obstacles, chaos even destruction.
This rune is also connected to transformation. If you consider all the keywords associated to Hagalaz it implies transformation of good to bad in a sense or what may be perceived as a transformation from good to bad.
But, consider for a moment that what if a destruction leads to a greater creation, interference brought to light a flaw that can now be fixed. What if the transformation, has to do with a mindset change that help you get out of a “poor me” mindset and change your thinking to a “I can do it’ mindset? Would Hagalaz still seem so bad?
Consider the hailstorm the catalyst to change. And as you know any thing worth having is challenging. We don’t get through challenges because it is always easy or comfortable, but because we want the end goal.
Just by wanting change in your life, by making the decision to shift from where you are to where you want to get to, is going to cost you some time and effort and possibly some pain. Your thoughts on why you are doing the change, and what that change means to you will determine how you approach the journey, the time it can take to get through and what you gain out of the experience.
Hagalaz’s forces of chaos and change cannot be controlled. It simply is. How you perceive it, go with the punches and roll with the flow is key to navigating the energy of this rune. Be patient with the process of this rune, stay focused on your dreams and goals throughout and make the most of this time.
If things are not going as you want in the direction you are currently heading, don’t resist, simply change course. Do something different! Example, if you are trying to build a business and you are having difficulty getting funding to start, then take some time to do more research, enroll in some additional training in the field. The shift may reveal some new elements that may delight and surprise you.
Just remember, sometimes for new things to take form, the old has to be dismantled. To fill your cup with something fresh, sometimes you have to empty out the old stuff, rinse it clean and pour in something new and refreshing to incite change.
